A mathematic Olympic hope
ST URSULA’S: Elizabeth Yevdokimov is a proud and passionate mathematician.
The subject permeates much of her school time and downtime except when she is playing chess, solving Rubik’s cubes or playing her violin.
Elizabeth dreams of being a member of the International Olympiad team and also the European Girls Olympiad team.
This year Elizabeth has had great success, winning first place in the Year 9 Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers competition.
She also received a high distinction in the Australian Mathematical Challenge for Young Australians, and her team won, for the third time, their section of the Darling Downs Teams Mathematics Challenge.
Elizabeth has been a member of the ACER modelling and problem solving research project run by the Australian Catholic University and she has been a member of the International Modelling Challenge for the past three years, submitting successful solutions each time.
The highlight of 2018 for Elizabeth was her selection as one of nine students for the state (and the only Year 9 student) to go to Sydney for the Australian Selection School for the Mathematics Olympiad. She received an honourable mention. We congratulate Elizabeth and know that she will continue to strive for excellence in her chosen field of mathematics.
