NUMBERS eased 3100, for a total yarding of 5100 head at the Roma store sale.

Some extra competitio­n, combined with a small improvemen­t in quality and smaller numbers, resulted in light weight yearling steers to restockers or background­ers averaging 11c to 26c/kg dearer.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed remained within a few cents either way of the previous sale.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background­ers also experience­d a lift in price, increasing 13c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to a generally firm market.

Light weight, poor condition lines dominated the cow section and sold to market 10-12c/kg cheaper. However, good heavy cows to export slaughter eased over 20c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made up to 290.2c, to average 277c, while most heifer calves sold around 200c, with some reaching 224.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 282c and made up to 300.2c, while poor quality lines averaged 247c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg weight range averaged 285c and made up to 298.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 286c, making up to 294.2c/kg.

Heavy weights over 400kg to feed made up to 296.2c and averaged 287c/kg.

The largest numbers of light weight yearling heifers averaged 232c and made up to 252.2c, with the lesser quality lines averaging 191c/kg.

Yearling heifers in the 280-330kg weight range made up to 266.2c, with most making approximat­ely 242c/kg.

A relatively small sample of 3 score bullocks topped at 260.2c, with grown heifers reaching 223.2c and averaging 220c/kg.

Light weight poor condition cows averaged 122c and made up to 132c/kg.

Medium weight, 2 score cows to processors averaged 178c, with the best of the medium weights averaging 205c/kg.

Good heavy cows made up to 213.2c, with most receiving approximat­ely 209c/kg.

Heavy bulls made up to 247.2c, to average 240c/kg.

Some very light weight bull calves, showing the effects off the season, sold to restockers at an average of 250c, with some reaching 282.2c/kg.

WARWICK

THE yarding decreased by 378, for a total offering of 1104 head. The young cattle section saw the largest reduction and there were fewer cows. The yarding of young cattle consisted of several pens of heavy steers and heifers, with the largest percentage comprised of light weight steers and heifers.

Quality was plainer, mainly comprising plain conditione­d yearlings and weaners in the sale, with the exception of an odd pen of well finished supplement­ary fed yearlings.

The market was cheaper for most classes of cattle, with restocker weaner steers making 10c cheaper, topping at 262c/kg.

Good quality and well bred background­er steers met a strong market, topping at 288c and averaging 264c/kg. Feeder steers decreased by 7c to 14c, with medium weights averaging 274c and making a top price of 295c, while heavy feeder steers sold up to 286c/kg.

The few trade steers topped at 288c/kg. Light yearling heifers were the most affected category, easing 10c to 30c, receiving from 110c to 220c, while some sales decreased further, receiving under 200c/kg.

Feeder heifers decreased 8c for an average of 238c, with trade heifers making up to 272c/kg.

The export cattle yarding consisted of a good supply of cows, with a fair penning of grown steers and heifers.

Quality was very mixed in a cheaper market. Bullocks and steers eased 20c to 30c, with variable quality potentiall­y contributi­ng to some prices.

Most sales sold from 223c to a top of 274c and grown heifers sold up to 249c/kg.

The cow market improved 12c to 14c/kg, while light plain conditione­d cows decreased further. 3 score medium weight cows averaged 199c and heavy cows sold to a top of 234c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

THE number of stock experience­d very little change this week. Light weight lines dominated the young cattle section, with only a small supply of medium and heavy weight yearling steers and heifers offered. A fair number of grown steers in the 400-500kg came forward, with only a few heavy grown steers and bullocks. The cows varied in quality, with four score cows offering the greatest numbers. A full panel of export buyers were present and most were operating, along with a few feeder operators and a limited number of restockers. Prices for light weight yearling steers eased a further 17c to 29c/kg and the light weight heifer portion followed a similar trend. The better end of the heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to strong demand. The handful of good heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter received very little change, while secondary lines were cheaper. The better end of the cows decreased 11c to 14c/kg, while plain condition lines were the least affected.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made up to 256.2c, with most around receiving 238c, while poor quality lines averaged 204c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 254c and made to 262.2c/kg. Well-bred heavy weight yearling steers to feed topped at 294.2c/kg.

Most light weight yearling heifers sold close to 205c, while lesser quality lines received 167c/kg.

The occasional B muscle heavy weight yearling heifer made up to 300c/kg.

Medium weight grown steers to feed averaged 257c and made up to 273.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers topped at 281.2c and a small portion of B muscle bullocks made up to 298.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 178c, with the best of the medium weights receiving up to 207.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made up to 225.2c and average 216c, with heavy bulls making up to 242.2c/kg.

DALBY

THERE was a large decline in number totalling 4447 head at Dalby today. Prices eased across a number of classes. Medium weight yearling steers off feed, averaged 9c/kg less and heavy weights to feed experience­d very little change. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market at the time of this interim report sold to solid demand, however, any stock not meeting feeder specificat­ions sold to a much cheaper market. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter eased by 18c to 25c and cows were lower in price, averaging 15c to 25c/kg cheaper.

BIGGENDEN

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday, July 30 saw a yarding of 1374 head. Heavy bulls topped at 245c/kg, steers over 600kg topped at 270c, cows over 500kg topped at 216c, cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 203c and trade heifers over 400kg topped at 250c. Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 288c while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 291c. Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 308c. Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold for 280c and heifers 200kg to 300kg sold to 244c. Brahman cross bullocks from Gayndah sold for 261c/$1770. THERE were 650 yarded in Murgon on Tuesday. Export cattle were short in number and the quality very mixed. The yarding consisted of mainly weaner cattle and a small number of feeders. Heavy bulls sold to $2.48c/kg for $2260. Export steers topped at $2.69c/kg and $1440. Cows over 500kg were very scarce selling to $2.16c/kg and $1480. Cows 400-500kg topped at $2c/kg. The market for lighter, plainer conditione­d cows under 400 kg were very tough topping at $1.65c/kg. Angus feeder steers from Windera sold to $2.80c/kg for $1365. 450kg droughtmas­ter steers from Murgon sold to $1180 at $2.69c/kg. 340kg charbray cross steers account M and M Laughton Moffatdale sold to $2.69c/kg and $915.
