Sweet success for chocolatier
TOOWOOMBA’S Metiisto Chocolate has won a swag of gold medals at the nation’s biggest food awards.
The first three bars produced at the Harristown factory, which opened in May, took the top prize in three categories at the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria 2018 Australian Food Awards.
It’s a major achievement for chocolatier Trevor Smith who crafts the bean-to-bar delights.
A CAREFULLY curated selection of 160 art works will go on display at Fairholme College’s annual art exhibition from this evening.
Spring-boarding off the success of last year’s event, the second iteration of Facets of Fairholme has been diligently put together by three Fairholme old girls, curators Sandy Pottinger, Grace Dewar and Sue Lostroh, together with Fairholme head of arts Karen Hayward, and others.
The event will bring together a range of artists - from students to old girls, local, interstate, and even internationally exhibited names - across a mix of disciplines.
Co-curator Grace Dewar said she thought the exhibition acknowledged “a really interesting balance between more traditional practices and contemporary works”.
“There’s some exciting emerging talent that’s based locally, as well as some artists we’ve pulled out of the woodwork from regional and rural areas as well. It’s a very broad mix,” she said.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is a piece by renowned indigenous artist and Fairholme old girl and Commonwealth Games medal designer Delvene Cockatoo-Collins titled Warrajamba the Mermaid.
There will be eight award winners announced tonight, with a final student award announced tomorrow.
The exhibition is open to the public between 10am and 3pm. Entry is $5 for adults and students enter free.
Tickets have already closed for tonight’s opening night.
