Fantastic weekend for Toowoomba

- SPORT EDITOR JASON GIBBS jason.gibbs@thechronicle.com.au

THE WEEKEND just gone is a fantastic example of just how much Toowoomba has grown.

Only a few years ago weekend’s like the one just gone were few and far between, with the biggest events on our social calendars limited to Carnival of Flowers, the Toowoomba Show and Weetwood Day.

But now we are spoilt for choice with events like Brewoomba, the City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod, the Outdoor Adventure and Motoring Expo, council’s Winter Wonderland and various gala balls being added to our social events calendar all the time.

And the more the merrier I say.

Events like these are a great opportunity for Toowoomba on many levels.

First of all they provide a chance for us all to let our hair down and celebrate.

And the flow on effects of those “celebrations” are immense with local businesses benefiting by providing services and goods to these events.

The standing of Toowoomba also receives a shot in the arm.

We’ve always been famous for “carnival” but it’s equally important that we diversify.

If more businesses and organisations can see we are ready, willing and able to host events our status will grow immensely.

It’s a win win for Toowoomba residents – provided we do our part and get behind local events.
