Kick off next month for social rugby comp

-

RUGBY UNION: Toowoomba Social Rugby will be kicking off next month, with Friday night fixtures designed to give both past and current players the opportunity to have a social spring hit out.

The Social Rugby competition begins on September 21 and will run over eight Friday nights at Gold Park.

The grand final will be played on Friday, November 9.

Matches feature non-contested scrums, 25-minute halves and a great opportunity to enjoy a social game of rugby.

The competition will be aimed at getting those who may have stepped away from rugby in the past couple of years back into the sport, as well as providing an opportunity to those who wish to continue playing rugby.

Downs Rugby general manager Mitchell Simpson said the sport’s governing body supported the competition initiative.

“We imagine we will see many old heads come back to rugby through the social rugby season, but we also hope it introduces some new faces to the sport,” Simpson said.

Registrations will be $160 for each player which includes eight weeks of rugby, full playing kit, a barbecue after each match and a post-season celebration.

Teams already on board include the Gatton Black Pigs, Toowoomba Rangers and Aubigny Barbarians.
