Thunder teams eager to maintain good form

-

FOOTBALL: The SWQ Thunder men returned to the winners’ list in style last weekend.

Facing fourth-placed Moreton Bay United, the Thunder scooped a 2-1 victory.

“It was a fantastic game to watch,” Thunder assistant men’s manager Kris Hemmerling said.

“Both teams played very good football but I think we deserved to win.

“We had some good opportunities early that we didn’t convert but we got there in the end.

“We didn’t have any weak links out. Everyone played to their potential and that’s what got us the win.”

But despite their confidence boosting victory, Hemmerling said the Thunder would not take this weekend’s opposition lightly.

“Sunshine Coast may have been relegated but we’ll just approach this like we would any other game,” Hemmerling said.

“We don’t how they’ll come out, whether they will have a point to prove or if they won’t care.

“We do know it’s going to be a tough game though.”

Hemmerling said the Thunder would also keep the shape they used against Moreton Bay last Saturday.

“We’ll keep the shape we used against Moreton Bay,” Hemmerling said.

“It’s a very small field at the Sunny Coast and if we stuck to our usual formation we’d have players running off the field.

“We’re going to line up a little more compact but will look to play our expansive game when we can.”

Women chasing back-to-back wins

THE Thunder women will also go into their clash full of confidence. Playing host to Mudgeeraba, the team will be looking for back-to-back wins.

Teenager Chloe Hutton struck the winner in the Thunder’s 3-2 win over Sunshine Coast and the team was unlucky to have not won by more.

Mudgeeraba won 5-0 when the teams last met. GAME DAY: The Thunder women play host to Mudgeeraba today at Clive Berghofer Stadium. Kick-off is 3.30pm. The Thunder men play the Sunshine Coast Fire at Kawana Sports Western Precinct tomorrow. Kick-off is 2pm.
