IS YOUR HAIR ALL WASHED UP? GREASE IS THE WORD

- – The Sun

Hate washing your hair every day?

While some lucky folk can get away with a few washes a week, many of us are all too familiar with greasy locks that keep us constantly on the wash and go.

But, if this sounds like you, there may be a few things that you’re doing in everyday life that are at the root of the problem – quite literally.

If excess oil is the bane of your life, Hair Trade has revealed the things to stop doing that could be the cause ...

TOUCHING YOUR HAIR TOO OFTEN

Just like touching your face too often, this can cause a build-up of grease. Constantly touching your hair transfers oils from your hands on to your locks – which leads to a greasy mop.

OVER-WASHING

Yep, washing your greasy tresses every day could actually be making your situation worse. Shampooing every day strips your scalp of its natural oils – and it then overcompensates as it tries to replace them. Whoops.

OVER-CONDITIONING

And your shampoo may not be the only issue. Be cautious with your conditioner – if you’re using one that’s too heavy for your hair type you could be increasing the grease factor. Also, avoid placing conditioner all over your roots, focus on the ends.

DIRTY HAIRBRUSH

How often do you clear and clean your hairbrush? A build up of old hair, styling products and dust can wreak havoc on your hair. A clogged-up brush will transfer all of the above straight on to your locks – yuck. Make sure you clean your brush regularly.

PRODUCT BUILD-UP

Styling products can clog up your scalp and your hair. Products such as dry shampoo can soon build up – so you may want to consider using a clarifying shampoo two to four times a month to keep this down.

WRONG PRODUCTS

Your hair products may not be compatible with your hair. If you’re prone to greasy hair make sure you’re using lightweight formulas – and avoiding those that promise “shine” or “moisture”.
