01 WAGNERS

-

THE Wagner family has, in some form, operated business in the region since the mid-1860s.

The masonry arm is still operational, but it’s the Wagners building and construction empire for which the family name is now known.

Started by brothers Denis, John and Neill, with their father Henry in 1989, the heavy construction material company started with a handful of trucks and a single concrete plant.

Aggressive growth and savvy acumen has seen it expand from there, with the global and composite fibre technology divisions launched in 2001, and international offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, opening in 2007.

In 2009 and during its 20th year of operation, Wagners was awarded the Regional Business Award which recognised the company which had made the largest impact on regional Queensland over the past 150 years.

The company remained wholly owned by the Wagner family until it was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in December, 2017.

Wagners Investments was also revealed to be one of the biggest political donors to the Labor Party in Queensland during 2015/16.

Keeping it all in the family, each brother overseas a different arm with Denis chairman, John with the airport and other infrastructure assets, Neill in charge of composite fibre technologies, and Joe the Australian projects director.

But at its very core remains an ethos of family, a legacy firmly set in place by Henry and Mary who instilled the value of close ties and an openness in communication.

That fundamental belief in the value of family has changed Toowoomba forever, put it within reach of unbridled potential and been a catalyst for its transformational growth.
