New music festival coming soon

A TOOWOOMBA singersongwriter has realised his dream to start a music festival, which will give lucky punters a chance to camp.

Cowsound, the brainchild of musician Benny Nelson, will be held on a property along Goombungee-Meringandan Rd at Muniganeen, about 25 minutes outside Toowoomba.

Mr Nelson launched the festival last week with the line-up featuring himself along with Toowoomba artists like Something Something Explosion, Venice on Fire, Mason Watts and Tidal Peak.

Brisbane and Sydney performers like Mardi Wilson and

Jack Rayne will also play.

Mr Nelson said the region deserved a contemporary music festival to fill a gap in the market.

“I think this is an event that Toowoomba hasn’t seen. It’s going to be heaps of fun, the atmosphere is going to be great,” he said.

“I think Toowoomba doesn’t have anything like this, especially in this scene.

“There are a couple of country festivals, but I thought it was perfect for the area.”

Alcohol will be BYO, but food vans will be available for dinner and breakfast.

The camping is also free, but patrons will need to buy a camping-specific ticket to ensure numbers.

Mr Nelson said he wanted to limit tickets to 300 people to ensure the idea could be sustainable in the future.

“Hopefully, in years to come we can build up the line-up to pull a larger crowd,” he said.

“We’re capping it at 300 people, and we don’t want any more for security reasons to make sure we can handle it.”
