RUGBY UNION: The Dalby Wheatmen set up a mouth-watering clash with arch rival Goondiwindi this weekend after casting aside USQ in their Wagners Risdon Cup qualifying semi-final on Saturday night.

The Wheatmen took the next step in their premiership defence with a 38-8 win over Saints at John Ritter Oval after holding a 13-0 lead at half-time.

The win sets up a major qualifying semi-final showdown with the Emus at Riddles Oval when the competition moves to its Super Saturday II stage.

The victor will move straight through to the September 1 grand final at Toowoomba’s Clive Berghofer Stadium.

USQ now faces Toowoomba Rangers in a Riddles Oval knock-out semi-final which spells the end of the 2018 road for the loser.

Rangers kept their season alive in commanding fashion on Saturday with a 43-19 win over the Condamine Cods in their elimination semi-final.

Rangers went on with the job in the second half after racing to a 17-5 advantage at the break.

Dalby’s victory over USQ capped a perfect day for the club which completed wins in all three grades.

The Wheatmen proved too strong for St George in their Bgrade qualifying semi clash, winning 24-14.

Dalby also won the C-grade qualifier 24-5 over Goondiwindi.

Condamine and Roma also progressed with Cods winning their B-grade eliminator 22-21 over Warwick.
