CHILDREN from the Kath Dickson Family Centre in Toowoomba did their part yesterday to help those impacted by drought. The children dressed as farmers as part of a fundraiser to support Drought Angels.

KATH Dickson Family Centre Occasional Care Centre director Floe McCarty dressed up along with the children and the carers in support of the farmers suffering from the drought.

The children and the carers dressed as farmers and made a small donation in support of the charity Drought Angels.

The centre decorated the Lawrence St facility yesterday with hay and animal statues to go with the costumes.

Both of the centre’s Toowoomba facilities are raising money for the charity this week while also teaching the children about the drought.

Mrs McCarty said the children enjoyed the day being dressed as farmers.

“The kids are loving it; there were lots of smiles on their faces when they arrived today,” Mrs McCarty said.

“We also took the time to talk to the children about produce farming and how drought affects it.

“This is also great opportunity to turn around say thank you to the farmers out there.”

Kath Dickson centres across the state have gotten involved to help aid efforts for the drought.

Drought Angels is a charity which provides aid to farmers who are affected by drought, fire and flood.

Mrs McCarty said it was important for the children to learn about effects of drought.

“Because the drought affects everyone, it’s important the children learn how to empathise with people who are having a hard time and that we need to help each other out,” Mrs McCarty said.
