Police chase trio has case in court

POLICE are continuing investigations into one of the men accused of involvement in a dramatic chase through Toowoomba’s outskirts last Friday.

Three people were charged with a number of alleged offences after the stolen Volkswagen Polo was stopped by stingers in Oakey last week, but detectives may have further charges laid against 33year-old Michael Charles Keith Lasserre.

Lasserre’s solicitor Joe Millican told the city’s Magistrates court yesterday that his matter would have to be stood over as “police are still making investigations into his matters”.

His case was adjourned to be heard again today.

Yesterday’s court list detailed 35 charges Lasserre is also facing, believed to be unrelated to the incident last week.

Dashcam footage released at the weekend showed the car twice driving into the path of oncoming traffic and narrowly avoiding a collision with a police patrol setting up a road block.

Police allege the group fuelled up without paying at a Biddeston service station just 15 minutes prior to their arrest.

One of Lasserre’s co-accused, Tamarah Carpenter, was released on parole on Saturday.

Documents from the Toowoomba Courthouse detail how 26-year-old Carpenter pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful use of a vehicle and obstructing police at the weekend.

Carpenter received a sixmonth jail term, but was released on parole immediately.

The other co-accused, Corey Cullen, had his matter adjourned to today so police could check an address ahead of an expected bail application.
