From the cradle to the altar

-

IT COULD be said Carmen Harris and Ben Gatfield were destined to spend their lives together.

After all, they were literally born together.

Carmen was born at Toowoomba Hospital on May 12, 1992, while Ben was born at St Vincent’s Hospital just one hour later.

Their birth notices appeared in The Chronicle a few days later side by side.

The pair then ended up going to Toowoomba State High School’s Mt Lofty campus where young love blossomed between them.

Having gone out together since Year 10, the pair went their separate ways for about eight or nine months when they were 19 but eventually got back together.

Both level headed young people, Carmen and Ben saved their pennies until they could obtain a block of land near the University of Southern Queensland on which they have now built their first home.

The long courtship culminated in Carmen and Ben getting married at St David’s Church in Mary St, Toowoomba, last weekend followed by a reception at The Downs Club.

Carmen’s mother Michelle gave her daughter away at the nuptials.

Though both enjoy travelling,Ben and Carmen settled on a four-day honeymoon on the Sunshine Coast before returning to Toowoomba where Ben works for the Toowoomba Regional Council and Carmen in administration at the University.
