RUGBY UNION: Goondiwindi will be out to crank up its 2018 premiership claims this weekend when the Emus host week two of this year’s Downs Rugby Super Saturday finals’ series.

Goondiwindi will be involved in all three men’s matches on a bumper day of men’s and women’s semi-final football across two fields, including the Wagners Risdon Cup qualifying final where it faces arch rival Dalby.

The winner marches directly to the September 1 grand final at Toowoomba’s Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Saturday’s main curtainraiser is a knock-out semi-final featuring USQ and Toowoomba Rangers.

The season ends for the loser with the victor facing either Goondiwindi or Dalby in Saturday week’s preliminary final.

The Emus dominated this year’s regular competition with an undefeated season run giving them a clear minor premiership victory.

But after sitting out a weekend during last Saturday’s opening round of semi-finals, Goondiwindi will be keen to hit the ground running against the defending Risdon Cup champions as it looks to press its premiership

restart button.

Saturday also marks a huge day for the Wheatmen who potentially can qualify three teams for grand-final day.

Dalby faces Goondiwindi in the B-grade qualifier while in the C-grade qualifier the Wheatmen are up against the Chinchilla River Rats. SUPER SATURDAY II at Riddles Oval
