A PIG farm in Goombungee have been recognised as one of the best food producers in the country.

The Schultz Family Farm won a gold medal for its suckling pigs at the delicious produce awards in Sydney.

Schultz Family Farm owner Vaughan Schultz said he was honoured to have won.

“It’s amazing to win this award. We won the state award last year and this year but it is great to have our product recognised at the national level,” Mr Schultz said.

The farm’s speciality is the ethical production of suckling pigs which are supplied to restaurants in Brisbane.

“The big difference with the farm is that chefs buy the pigs directly from the farm,” Mr Schultz said.

“This means the pigs will not be under the same amount of stress if the pigs were to go to a sale yard.”

Delicious editor-in-chief Kerrie McCallum said the awards recognised the producers who had found innovative ways to consistently provide the best-tasting produce.

The awards were judged by some of Australia’s top chefs.

National judge Matt Moran said it was always a privilege to be part of the awards.

“Every year we are blown away by the standard of produce being grown and raised around this bountiful country that lays the foundation for our world-class food industry,” Mr Moran said.
