Rider looks forward to ‘home round’

MOTORSPORT: Tayla Relph might be from Brisbane but has called Morgan Park Raceway her home track for the past eight years.

The 21-year-old works in childcare and is a part-time journalism student at university.

But when it comes to the weekend, she is on the road to rounds of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championships.

She has already competed at Phillip Island (Vic), Tailem Bend (SA), Wakefield Park (NSW) and Hidden Valley (NT).

Round 5 is at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend and Relph will be racing in the supersport 300 and Yahama R3 championships on a 300cc Yamaha bike.

In a career which started at age 13, Relph is now on her fifth bike after starting on a KTM 65.

“My aim will be a podium finish at Morgan Park this weekend,” she said.

“I have been close to the podium this year in supersport 300 but at least 10 of the 35 starters are capable of winning.” It takes a lot to stop Relph from racing.

In the first round at Phillip Island this season, Relph was hit by another rider and suffered a cut to the leg.

“I had four stitches in the leg at the track and continued to race before having to get emergency surgery in Brisbane on the Monday,” Relph said.

“I was warned about the dangers of racing again but was keen to compete to get some points towards the championships.”
