Concerns over the integrity of Clifford Park’s ontrack lighting system have been allayed with Toowoomba Turf Club this week giving it the all clear.

Stewards requested the club provide them a detailed explanation of why the lights failed for a second time last Saturday night.

The stewards’ concerns followed a previous light failure at the track last month.

Last Saturday’s first race was delayed for a short time when several banks of lights were not operating.

Turf club chairman Kent Woodford said the lights were found to be in good working order and the failure problem had been addressed.

“The lights are fine. There is no problem with them at all,” Woodford said.

“The failure last Saturday night was an operational error and we’ve put procedures in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Clifford Park’s Friday Afternoon Twilight Series continues tomorrow with seven races starting at 3.22pm.

Meanwhile, trials for next month’s Pat O’Shea Plate began this week at Clifford Park with two jump-out heats held over 350 metres.

The two-year-olds will continue their September 23 Plate build-up when 800-metre barrier trials are run on August 28.
