Ruddigore brings all-star cast to stage

Marriage, michief and mayhem in Gilbert & Sullivan’s production

-

ONE of opera’s weirdest and most wonderful shows will be on stage on August 25 with Opera Queensland’s production of Ruddigore.

Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse, is the second Gilbert and Sullivan production of the 2018 Empire Theatres season following the highly successful major production The Pirates of Penzance in March.

The all-star cast includes Bryan Probets, Christine Johnston (The Kransky Sisters), Jason Barry-Smith and Natalie Christie Peluso as Rose Maybud.

Featuring the Toowoomba Community Chorus, Ruddigore tells the story of the shy law-abiding Robin Oakapple who works up the courage to ask the beautiful Rose Maybud to marry him.

But inside he has a dark secret; he is heir to a terrible curse that dictates he must commit a dastardly deed every day or face a torturous death.

Charming musical gems including the ‘Matter’ trio and Rose’s ‘Etiquette’ song will dazzle in production that reveals Gilbert and Sullivan in a new way.

The Toowoomba chorus will perform alongside some of the country’s most talented singers in a show that promises some delicious Pythonesque surprises, crazy larger-than-life characters, uninhibited villainy, the living dead and a haunted castle.
