Cooby still a hot spot with Leslie Dam also firing well
COOBY DAM
COOBY this past week has been very productive with great numbers of fish caught.
A few techniques have been working well, while the standout has been trolling a Lipless Crankbait over the top of the weed into the late afternoons.
Saltwater yabbies have also been working well during the day.
Some under-size cod have also been quite active eating the same lures and baits.
The deeper water towards the rock wall has seen some good catches on blades and soft vibes.
CRESSBROOK DAM
THERE’S still been some great fishing this past week at Cressbrook.
The fish have moved out into the main basin and not too far away from the boat ramp, so travelling and finding these fish has been quite easy.
Locating these fish and casting spoons and plastics have been the pick of the lures.
The main points off the camp ground have been holding some good fish.
The afternoon bite has been the pick of the times.
SOMERSET DAM
IT’S very hit and miss at the moment at Somerset, but still some massive fish are being caught.
The Kirkleigh and Queen Street flats are holding massive numbers of fish.
Just getting them to bite hasn’t been the easiest.
Winter time in the afternoon is always the best chance of catching the schooled fish as this is when the water temperature reaches its maximum.
The Gang Banger G2 spoon is still a must when fishing Somerset at the moment.
BORUMBA DAM
BORUMBA is a dam that flies under the radar most of time.
It has been fishing quite well
of late with a lot of the fish schooling at the junction in the timbered areas. The 30 foot mark seems to be the depth to start searching.
These fish have been reacting well to soft plastics and metal blades.
This dam has the potential to have a great edge bite due to its weed beds and structured banks.
Casting spinnerbaits and jerkbaits can be another very successful way of catching fish.
As the weather is beginning to warm up so are the saratoga.
The best way to target these fish is with a surface lure on the low light periods of the day.
LESLIE DAM
IT’S been a very productive week out at Leslie Dam.
Most anglers are bagging out quite easily with some great yellow belly.
Still jigging soft vibes and ZX blades has been the best chance of a fish, also saltwater yabbies are accounting for some good fish.
Some good-size cod have been picked up trolling deep diving hard bodies just off the edge of the creek bed.
With the water levels dropping the most consistent place to find the fish has been out in front of the dam wall and off the main boat ramp in the deeper water.
MOOGERAH DAM
THERE have been good reports coming in from Moogerah this week.
This is the time to fish Moogerah as in the warmer months it gets a lot of attention with the water skiers.
The fish have been schooled in good numbers at the spit and into the start of the timber.
Targeting these fish with spoons and plastics have been the go to baits, while the trolling anglers are having good success trolling Jackalls close to the timber.
OFFSHORE GOLD COAST
WITH some great weather at the start of the week it allowed people to travel offshore and catch good numbers of fish.
The 24 and 36’s have been producing good snapper.
Float lining pilchards or whole squid have worked well.
Pearl Pearl and other reef fish are showing up on the 56’s.
Longtail as well as mac tuna have also started to appear not too far off the mouth of the Seaway in the last week.
Casting metal slugs or stick baits is your best bet for these pelagic fish.
