FOLLOWING in the footsteps of his family, it only made sense that Edward Whibley, 6, would be a whip cracking champion.

The young gun from Pallamallawa near Moree, started cracking whips at the age of three.

Ed has four older siblings, three of which also compete in whip cracking competitions.

Ed took out first place in his age group at the Ekka this year, as well as first place at the Sydney Royal Show and the Queensland titles in Clifton.

“I like the money,” Ed said when asked what he liked best about competing.

He uses his prizemoney to go on rides and buy showbags at the shows.

Despite his talent for whip cracking, Ed’s true passion lies with photography.

He said he wants to take photos when he grows up.

Rural Weekly first met Ed when he was lying on the grass with his camera to get a good angle for his photos of the red poll cattle, where his sister Paris Whibley was competing.

Paris, 15, also competed in the whip cracking competition along with Ed’s two other sisters, Sophia, 12 and Georgia, 11.

His parents, Lisa and Kerry Whibley, also participated in the open competition.

Sophia took out first place in the Juvenile, Paris got first in the Juniors, Georgia took out fourth place in the Open, beating her mum who took out fifth.
