1. HISTORIC LEYBURN SPRINTS

When: Today and Tomorrow

Where: Leyburn, 68km south-west of Toowoomba

THE 23rd Historic Leyburn Sprints welcomes 210 historic, classic and performanc­e cars and up to 15,000 spectators for two days of round-the-houses time trials on the closed streets of Leyburn. Celebratin­g the 1949 Australian Grand Prix, run on a wartime airfield just outside this former Cobb and Co staging point and gold fields village, the sprints is the 2017 Queensland Motor Sport Event of the Year and one of Australia’s most popular historic motor sport events.

Renowned for its grass-roots country atmosphere centred on the 1863 Royal Hotel, the community-run sprints also hosts a Show ‘n’ Shine car display (tomorrow only), vintage caravan display, markets and other attraction­s. Lucky raffle winners will take a fast track ride in powerful McLaren or Lotus sports car, Audi Quattro rally car, 800 horsepower Ford Falcon GT or an ex-police drag racer.

2. VIETNAM VETERANS DAY

When: Today from 11am

Where: Mothers’ Memorial Park (Vietnam Memorial), Margaret St

THIS year’s ceremony will have special significan­ce for many veterans as it is the 50th anniversar­y of the Battles of Coral and Balmoral.

Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Olivia Golightly from St Ursula’s College and members of the public are invited to attend.

3. LEGO WORKSHOPS

When: Today from 10am Where: Cobb and Co Museum, 27 Lindsay St

How would you like to turn your next LEGO creation into a robot, programmed to do exactly what you tell it to do? Our Junior Robotics workshop offers all the fun of building with LEGO bricks, plus the challenge of computer programmin­g.

Our Senior Robotics programs with LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 are designed to take kids from introducto­ry through to advanced robotics in a fun, collaborat­ive learning environmen­t.

4. SPACE PILOTS ROCKET LAUNCH

When: Today from 1.30pm

Where: TARMAC, New England Highway, Hodgsonval­e

WHAT better way to spend a few hours on a sunny Saturday afternoon with the kids than to come and see the launching of dozens of awesome model rockets at a Space Pilots rocket launch at the T.A.R.M.A.C model aircraft grounds (on your right just five minutes through Hodgsonval­e on the New England Highway).

Admission is free but bring some folding chairs or a rug.

Heaps of parking available, toilets and refreshmen­ts too.

5. RUGBY LEAGUE THE MUSICAL

When: Today 7.30pm

Where: The Armitage Centre, Empire Theatre

Rugby League The Musical is side splitting new material based on the current season, along with old favourites that have made the show a cult hit.

Produced and performed by Australia’s hardest working sports satirist, Denis Carnahan, Rugby League The Musical is a hilarious blend of stand up comedy and musical satire that takes aim at The Greatest Game Of All and its many colourful characters and controvers­ies.

6. GHOSTLY TALES TOUR

When: Today 8.30pm to 10.30pm

Where: Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery

Come experience the ghostly tales of Toowoomba through a guided tour of the very haunted Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery.

Age limit: 16-plus, $40 per person. Bookings essential - no holds barred.

7. ARTHUR POSTLE STATUE UNVEILING

When: Tomorrow 10am

Where: Pittsworth town centre A statue and plinth honouring “The Crimson Flash” Arthur Postle will be unveiled in Pittsworth tomorrow at 10am by Mayor Paul Antonio and Professor Glen Postle.

Pittsworth-born Postle was a multiple record holder and considered to be the fastest man in the world during the early 1900s.

A breakfast hosted by Pittsworth Rotary club to mark the occasion will be held on the vacant land in Short St from 9am.

8. USQ TOOWOOMBA OPEN DAY

When: Tomorrow from 10am to 4pm

Where: University of Southern Queensland, West St south

Open day could be where it all starts for you when USQ Toowoomba opens its doors to show why it is the number one university for graduate employment in Queensland.

The open day will feature live entertainm­ent from our talented creative arts students, workshops, demonstrat­ions, and informatio­n sessions covering all things USQ.

A workshop that focuses on providing real-life strategies to empower school leavers to deal with change will also be on offer, as well as on-campus accommodat­ion tours led by our student ambassador­s.

9. TRINKETS, TREASURES AND HIGH TEA

When: Tomorrow from 1.30pm

Where: Goombungee and District History Museum, George St, Goombungee

BRING along your treasures and trinkets for appraisal by renowned antiques expert Jeremy Green from Range Antiques.

10. MINIATURE TRAIN RIDES

When: Tomorrow 11am to 4pm

Where: Toowoomba Live Steamers, Lemway Park, Kearneys Spring

Multi-ride passes are available which are for 10 rides for $18. These passes are transferab­le and can be used for multiple passengers at any public running day. Single ride tickets are $2.
