Toowoomba’s generosity shines

-

THE well-known generosity of Toowoomba residents was to the fore again with donations to the 9th annual Hand for the Homeless flooding in.

Six local music bands and solo artists — Venice On Fire, Tidal Peak, Overdrive, Enya, Nick Marks and Josh Bartlett — donated their time and talent to a night of fun and fundraising at Bon Amici.

“I always try to get local bands,” Hand for the Homeless organiser Toni Mitchell said.

“And Bon Amici are great, they are very, very supportive of the event and they don’t charge us for the venue.

“Bon Amici have been with us for seven years now.”

Ms Mitchell said the Serengeti Print Group provided the posters and flyers for the event free of charge, allowing 100% of proceeds raised on the night to go directly to the chosen charity.

“The chosen charity this year is ADRA in the Bell St Mall which helps homeless people and hopefully I’ll have about $1000 to present to them this week along with a heap of donated goods.

“However, over the years through Hand for the Homeless we have supported a range of charities such as The Base, Rosies, the Salvos, Lifeline, AustCare, the Youth Service and The Haven.

“People were very generous and donated a range of non-perishable food, toiletries, warm clothing, children’s clothing, blankets, scarves, beanies... someone even donated a swag.

“Some people just came down and donated a box of goods but didn’t stay for the concert, they just wanted to give to help.”

Donations are still being accepted direct to ADRA in the Bell St Mall.
