Thunder determined to finish NPL season strong
FOOTBALL: Their NPL status is secure but the South West Queensland Thunder will not finish the season quietly.
Away to Gold Coast United today, Thunder men’s team assistant manager Kris Hemmerling said the team wanted to finish strongly.
“The players still have their goals and they’re not turning away from them,” Hemmerling said.
“We want to finish the season strongly.
“We believe we can win both our remaining games and that is what we plan to do.
“We’re not going to experiment or do anything different.
“We’re stick to the system that has worked for us all season.”
For the Thunder that means reverting to the formation and mindset that suits their strengths best.
“We will go back to our traditional three at the back today,” Hemmerling said.
“We had to tweak things a little the past two weeks because of the small pitches we

were on.
“Gold Coast are a big physical side but we’re confident we can counter that.
“Our strength this season has been our fast counter-attack and we’ll stick to that because it works.”
The Thunder will also stick with the players who have been performing best for the team this season.
“If they (the players) have been good enough we’ve played them,” Hemmerling said.
“We’ve always rewarded the players who work hard and are performing.”
THUNDER WOMEN EAGER TO ROLL ON
Fresh from a 3-2 win over Mudgeeraba, the Thunder will be eager to maintain their good form today.
Playing host to Brisbane Roar/NTC, the Thunder are aiming to record a third straight victory.
The Thunder lost 5-2 the last time they faced the Roar but were very competitive for large portions of the game.
KICK-OFF: The Thunder women’s game will be played at the Highfields Sports Complex today. The match gets under way at 2.30pm.
