LEFTIST RUBBISH
HOW the lunatic left is marching through our educational institutions.
As a double graduate from University of Queensland I clearly remember as a young undergraduate, the grand words imprinted above the entrance to the main building “A Place of Light, Liberty, and Learning.” I assumed that this declaration applied to all of Australia’s educational institutions.
The leftist dominated Australian National University (funded by us) has recently rejected a $2 million offer from the Ramsay Centre for a course on Western Civilisation, which of course includes Christianity. It clearly caved in to threats of repercussions from the leftist Academics Union and the leftist Students’ Union. That same university had already gladly taken donations worth millions of dollars from the governments of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Dubai and Turkey for Middle Eastern and Islamic studies.
James Cook University in Townsville dismissed the prominent marine scientist Professor Peter Ridd for questioning the effects of climate change on the health of the Great Barrier Reef.
Academics were once meant to challenge all theories with objective reasoning, but at James Cook University, as with all leftist groups, “global warming” or “climate change” have become irrefutable religions. To challenge them amounts to heresy, hence Professor Ridd’s dismissal.
The lives of three QUT students were turned upside down for daring to criticise their ban from using computers designated for indigenous students. “Go-away” money was extorted from one student, and another had to change courses as he had been branded with that leftist title of “racist”. He had wanted, upon graduation, to live and work among Aboriginal people as a teacher.
These are just three outrages of many in Australia’s tertiary institutions.
Primary and secondary school students are being stealthily instructed in leftist propaganda, predominantly gender theory, whether their parents approve of it or not.
To say that western civilisation is under threat from outside forces is not quite correct. It is clearly under threat from the ill-informed, irresponsible left within our own community who try to deny free speech to any opinions but their own.
By airbrushing the British and other European contribution to our development out of our national history they are denying its great benefits which we all enjoy.
Those grand words in the sandstone over the main entrance of Queensland University look rather hollow today. My assumption as a young undergraduate was reasonable at that time. Nowadays that assumption would be naive because those words just don’t apply, thanks to the destructive left.
