“I IMAGINE going to space in a rocket would feel like travelling strapped to a bomb,” St Ursula’s College teacher Steve Broderick said.
Although unsure about leaving earth for space, the maths teacher and two St Ursula’s College students will soon be blasting off for Houston to take part in a two week space camp at NASA.
“I don’t know about physically travelling into space - I was scared of even going on the Gravitron ride at the Easter show,” Mr Broderick said.
“However, I’ve always been into science, astronomy and space stations - I am very interested in the logistics behind the missions.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience - to be able to see the nuts and bolts behind NASA is something most people could only dream of.”
Mr Broderick and students Piper Hofstee and Lucy McGrath will join hundreds of other Australian and international students at the camp, where they will take part in astronaut training exercises and low gravity science experiments.
The guests also have the opportunity to explore the NASA facilities and speak to astronauts on their experiences.
St Ursula’s is one of five Toowoomba schools participating in the camp, with students travelling to the NASA station during the school holidays in December.
