Tenants in by this year
Work starts on Longs Building’s Margaret St facade
THE revitalisation of the historic Longs Building in the Toowoomba CBD could be completed as early as next month, according to the developer.
Scaffolding for McNab Constructions now surrounds the site’s frontage onto Margaret St, which will deliver a muchneeded facelift of the building.
The redevelopment of the site is being completed by a five-member consortium that bought it in September last year.
As Planned Developments’ Mark Adamson, who is heading the project, said tenants could be fitting out their new spaces by October.
“The project will be largely finished by the end of September,” he said.
“It might be the first week of October that we open, and there will be some tenants starting to fit out.
“We’ve got three tenants confirmed and we’ve had some pretty nice interest.
“It’s going along quite well and we’re pretty happy with the progress.”
Mr Adamson said the new owners would retain much of the original 1915 design.
“All the interior we’ve taken back to bare brick and we’ve removed the plaster and render that will leave the original feel of the building,” he said.
Colliers International Commercial agent Justin Eastwell, who is handling the lease of spaces, previously said the building’s design would match the needs of tenants.
“The concept is going to revolve around tenant specifications so we’re not going to restrict things too much yet,” he said in April.
“Downstairs we want retail and food, and of course the upstairs section will be offices.”
