PIANOS will be fine-tuned and players well-rehearsed ahead of the annual Charles and Motee Rogers Memorial competition this weekend.

Young pianists aged 21 and under will compete for the top prize named in honour of the prominent local musical couple, Charles and Motee Rogers.

The competition has been held annually since 1983.

This weekend’s instalment will feature 16 pianists in junior and senior sections, in both traditional and contemporary commercial styles.

The young musicians will perform in front of adjudicator and renowned Brisbane pianist and pedagogue Dr Mark Griffiths, a teacher and lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium.

Dr Griffiths’ doctoral research, which he finished in 2017, focused on investigating educational strategies used to foster expressive performance skills within pre-tertiary pianists.

Competition organisers described Dr Griffiths as an influential clinician who has led piano masterclasses in Queensland and Victoria.

The different musical styles performed will ring out of the Performing Arts Complex of The Glennie School from 9am - noon on Sunday.

Entry will be by gold coin donation. The Charles and Motee Rogers Memorial Piano Competition is sponsored by the Toowoomba and District Music Teachers’ Association of Queensland.
