Toowoomba backs Turnbull for PM
Poll shows we support PM to keep top job
TOOWOOMBA residents overwhelmingly want Malcolm Turnbull to remain Australia’s Prime Minister.
In a poll taken by The Chronicle of its Facebook audience, 59 per cent of the 658 respondents said they would like to see Mr Turnbull remain in the top job over Peter Dutton.
Yesterday Mr Turnbull said if Mr Dutton got 43 signatures on a petition calling for a party room meeting it would be held at noon today and he would step aside if a spill motion was called.
Residents took to Facebook to vent their frustrations about the challenge.
“Why should (the Liberals) pick,” John Hoult wrote in response to the poll.
“It’s our country, so it’s the people that should pick.”
Wendy Mcaway agreed.
“(They) should go back to the polls and let Australia people make the choice,” Ms Mcaway said.
Other readers were frustrated with the constant change of Prime Minister.
“Not a fan of some liberal policies but this revolving door of PMs really has to end,” Syafiq Yusof said.
“I am scared to blink in case PMs change. None of them look after us,” Vicki Lynette
Trunks said.
“Didn’t vote for either of them,” Karen Wright-Kay said.
“But this chopping and changing is not helping community faith in our government.”
Other respondents said they were still annoyed that Mr Turnbull challenged former Prime Minister Tony Abbott for the top job back in 2015.
“I voted for Tony Abbott, Malcolm stabbed him in the back,” Sheryl Author said.
“It’s fitting that Dutton should return the favour.
“I have lost all faith in Australian politicians.”
Scott Morrison and Julie Bishop are believed to be putting their hand up as well for the top job, but The Chronicle did not have time to poll those leaders.
