A NEW Asian eatery has opened in Toowoomba and the dishes are fit for a queen, literally.

Eats of Asia opened in Grand Central’s original food court in June and sells Hong Kong, Malaysian and Singapore-inspired dishes.

It is owned by Tony Cheng who also operates two restaurants in Brisbane.

Mr Cheng moved to Australia from Hong Kong when he was 22 after he finished his cooking apprenticeship at the Hilton.

When Mr Cheng first moved to the country he worked in the largest Chinese restaurant in Sydney’s China Town where he was chosen to cook for the Queen and royal family when they visited.

“Back then I couldn’t speak much English so I’m not sure what royals were with the Queen, but I was told they were very happy with the food,” he said.

Eats of Asia offers a range of affordable dishes including wonton noodle soup, black pepper chicken, fried rice, vegetarian stir fried noodles, as well as dumplings and spring rolls.

As Mr Cheng has been cooking for Aussies for 41 years, he said he knew what Australian people enjoyed to eat.

“People come to a food court to spend little money but they’ll get big restaurant service from me,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what you’re cooking, as long as you put your heart into it you will make good food.”

It seems Mr Cheng’s cooking not only impressed the queen but also many Toowoomba residents with people revisiting the eatery after they’ve finished dining to compliment him on the food.
