Cliveden out to repeat dose

Oakey 5yo in Clifford Park double bid

Oakey trainer Pat Sexton is hoping Godolphin cast-off Cliveden can keep the stable ball rolling when he attempts back-to-back Clifford Park wins tomorrow.

Cliveden will be out to repeat his Class 2 win over 1000 metres two weeks ago when he lines up in the Joe Wagner Group Class 3 Handicap (1210m).

The Street Cry five-yearold, out of McKinnon Stakes placegetter Camarena, scored one race win for the Godolphin stable during an injury-hit start to his career.

His seven starts since joining Sexton have produced two more wins and with only 13 career starts to his name, Sexton is banking on the gelding’s best still being ahead of him.

“We bought him at a Magic Millions tried horse sale,” Sexton said yesterday.

“Russ English, who is a great supporter of mine, picked him out for us.

“I spoke with Darren Beadman about the horse’s history and he said he’d had an accident as a two-year-old but had come through it okay and could make a nice type racing up around our area.

“He’s a beautiful horse.

“He won for us at Beaudesert and then I ran him on a heavy track at the Sunshine Coast that might have gutted him. I gave him a break and he’s come back okay.

“He’s drawn badly on Saturday but I’m hoping he can get up there and put himself into the race.

“It was a good win here last start and hopefully he can repeat the effort.

“I just had Burning Mountain win up at Rockhampton today for my good mate Sam Mayer so it would be nice to add to that with Cliveden on Saturday.”

Nozi Tomizawa retains the Cliveden ride tomorrow after their last-start success.
