Greyhound race helps farmers in drought

-

LISMORE Greyhound Track is holding a race day to raise money for drought-stricken farmers.

The event will be held on Tuesday, August 28, in conjunction with the Lismore Lions Club.

“What we’ve decided to do is raise some much-needed funds for our farmers out west,” track manager John Zorzo said.

“We’re going to have 10 races that will be sponsored out on the night.

“And we’re going to donate our gate takings from the night as well.

“There will also be some raffles being held by the Lions Club.”

Mr Zorzo said he was hoping to raise up to $4000.

“We just want to help those guys out there. They need all the help they can get,” he said.

“And there are a lot of small or individual groups donating their time and helping as much as they can.

“It only takes one person to steer a ship but the more people you get on board the better it’ll be.”

Gates open at 5pm, with the first race starting at 6.45pm.

Tickets will be $5.50 and $3.30 for pensioners. Children under 18 are free.

There will be full bistro and bar facilities available at the track.

Lismore Greyhound Track and Lismore Lions Club would like to thank the businesses that have sponsored the races: Just Drive Driver Education, Northern Agri-Services Casino, Ongmac Trading, Bug’s Bobcat and Excavator Hire, Tattersals Hotel Casino, Shane Powell Plumbing, Clear Pest Control, La Barraca and Keysies Quality Meats.

Keysies Quality Meats and the Station Hotel have also donated to the raffle.

Funds collected on the night will be distributed by the Lions Club as needed.
