Minister opens $6.3m school hall at Wilsonton
EDUCATION Minister Grace Grace has officially opened Wilsonton State High School’s new $6.3 million hall.
Ms Grace said the opening of the hall, handed over to the school by builder Wiley and Co in February this year, was already being credited with transforming the school culture.
“Wilsonton State High School has never had a hall before, and assemblies and other events have been held in an undercover area,” Ms Grace said.
“Now the school’s graduation ceremony and many other school events can be held in a proper hall.
“It’s already been utilised by the
school community, with Wilsonton’s first school musical held at the hall in May.”
Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts welcomed the opening of the new hall and paid tribute to those who made it a reality.
“The opening of the Wilsonton State High School auditorium is a testament to years of hard work and determination by the entire school community, particularly the P&C members David Van Tricht and Melinda Dick, former principal Chris Zilm and current principal Marcus Jones,” Mr Watts said.
The hall incorporates a multi-purpose
sports court, a stage area which can be closed off for use while the court is in action, storage rooms, amenities and change rooms, kitchen facilities, a kinesiology room and staff room.
“The Palaszczuk Government is delighted to have been able to deliver this project under the $200 million Advancing Queensland Schools (AQS) program,” Ms Grace said.
Wilsonton State High School principal Marcus Jones said the hall was proving a huge asset to the school.
“The difference this has made to the whole culture of the school just can’t be overstated,” Mr Jones said.
