'Toowoomba is culinary capital': National TV presenter

THE Carnival of Flowers is only weeks away and to have the city feature on Channel 7’s The Great Day Out couldn’t have come at a better time.

With the biggest event of the year set to draw more than 100,000 visitors to the region, cafes and restaurant­s are gearing up for a busy 10 days.

On Sunday the Garden City starred on The Great Day Out.

It focused on Toowoomba fast becoming a culinary capital, with host Alastair McLeod visiting a number of our eateries.

Mr McLeod said the hardest decision you’d have to make when visiting town was deciding how to fit in as many food stops as possible.

“If you are passionate about your foodie experience like I am, you’ll be aware of the buzz that’s happening in Toowoomba,” he said.

“From speciality cafes, fine dining, craft brewing, wineries and everything in between Toowoomba is fast becoming a culinary capital.”

The first stop was Ground Up which he described as a coffee institutio­n.

Mr McLeod then visited 4 Brothers Brewing where he spoke with owner Adrian Cubit, while sampling beers.

It was then off to Picnic Point Cafe where Mr McLeod said the views from the dining deck were “second to none and the best in Queensland.”

The last business featured was Metiisto, the city’s new chocolate factory. Metiisto couldn’t be missed after winning gold recently at the Australian Food Awards, with it hailed as the best bean to bar chocolate factory in the country.
