City Golf Club proposes unit development to TRC

-

JUST a week after the Toowoomba Golf Club was approved for a unit development, its cross-town rival has brought its own proposal to the council.

The City Golf Club submitted plans this week for 10 units in South Toowoomba, turning a single-storey brick house and overflow car park into a staged development.

According to the plans, the units would sit next to the clubhouse on South St, with a rear entry from Winifred St.

Precinct Urban Planning’s Paul Kelly told the council the proposal would be split into five stages, one for each pair of units.

“The residential unit complex will be built in five standalone buildings with one pair of units in each,” he wrote in the planning report.

“Proposed staging will align with these individual buildings i.e. five stages.

“Each unit type has been architecturally designed to maximise views across the adjoining golf course grounds, with living areas and first floor balconies addressing these facilities.

“In addition, the units have been designed to address the internal driveway including front entrances with entry pergolas and fenestration along the eastern elevation for visual interest and causal surveillance purposes.”

20 car parks will be built to cater for the units.

The proposal is classed as code assessable, meaning the development won’t need to go out for public consultation.

The golf club bought the land featuring the car park in 2006, before buying the second lot in 2015.

The council last week approved a controversial retirement village proposed by the Toowoomba Golf Club at Middle Ridge, which caused concern among neighbours.
