Vital road upgrade is complete after two years

A SIGNIFICANT upgrade of Boundary St to provide a connection to the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing has been completed.

Toowoomba Regional Council Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor said the upgraded Boundary St would play a vital role in the growth of Toowoomba’s transport network.

“The upgrade was designed to provide a connection from the Range Crossing to the Torrington industrial area, and Boundary St is expected to be used by both light and heavy vehicles accessing the area over time,” she said.

“The upgrade was constructed over two years in stages from Bridge St to north of Hermitage Rd where Boundary St connects to the Second Range Crossing.

“A new section of road was constructed between Bedwell and Pedersen Sts, the missing link in the Boundary St alignment, with the community no longer having to travel via Hendy St.”

The project has also involved road widening in the section from Pedersen St to Bridge St to create four lanes, installation of street lighting for the length of the project, significant drainage upgrades to channel stormwater and installation of footpaths.

Cr Taylor said the upgrade was one of the largest road construction projects that the council had undertaken in recent times.

“It involved more than 100,000 cubic metres of earthworks, 6000 tonnes of asphalt, installation of more than 1600 metres of pipes and culverts and almost 7000 metres of underground road lighting power cables,” she said.

“Landscaping is a vital part of the project with approximately 30,000 new plantings with significant sections turfed or hydromulched.

“The result is a major upgrade which will improve driver and pedestrian safety, cater for both local residents and vehicles using the TSRC and improve traffic efficiency.”

The upgrade project was predominantly funded by Toowoomba Regional Council with support through the State Government’s TIDS program.
