Braford sale a big deal in dry

DESPITE the ongoing dry conditions, the largest ever crowd gathered for the 14th annual New Dimension Braford Bull and Female Sale at Bell Showground­s on Saturday, August 25.

Long time braford stud breeder, and president of the Australian Braford Society, Elwyn Rea, of Edengarry stud at Kunwarara, opened the sale.

Braford bulls sold for a top price of $21,000 for Lot 21 – Carinya Tennant, offered by the Amor family of Carinya stud at Dulacca, and purchased by the Meek family of Cargara Cattle Co at Augathella.

In the female section, dry conditions affected the prices due to a few usual purchasers being absent from the buyer gallery, however registered braford females sold for a top price of $4500.

The heifer was Lot 37 – 19-month-old Carinya 2930, offered by John and Jackie Amor, and purchased by Darren and Alice Marks, Winvic Pastoral Company at Clermont.

Seven commercial females were offered by two vendors.

Craig and Kathy of Knauth Nungil Brafords at Brymaroo offered five females to average $780.

Julie Munn and Glen Hanson of Dark Patches Brafords at Gympie offered two females to average $600.

SALE HIGHLIGHTS:

■ 14 braford bulls: top $21,000, average $6750, clearance 78 per cent

■ 38 registered braford females: top $4500, average $1601, clearance 98 per cent

■ Seven commercial braford females: top $1000, average $715, clearance 100 per cent
