A SLEEPING giant of Toowoomba, Harlaxton has come along in leaps and bounds as a popular suburb for families looking to establish themselves on the property ladder.

As one of the most affordable suburbs in Toowoomba, it has a median sales price of $289,000 for houses which is an impressive 10.1 per cent increase on last year’s figures, according to CoreLogic data.

There are some great residential pockets in this suburb, particularly in the area around Downlands College and the suburb also has a state primary school within its boundaries.

Harlaxton is dissected by the New England Hwy, with the east side of Harlaxton featuring splendid vistas of Toowoomba towards the south, escarpment views and the city’s suburbs to the west.

Harlaxton is 4km north of Toowoomba’s CBD and is named for the heritage-listed Harlaxton House commissioned by Francis Gregory in 1870.

There is a mix of housing styles from timber character homes to modern brick homes and units. There are good shopping facilities in Harlaxton at Northpoint Shopping Centre, which features two supermarkets, a butcher shop, bakery, pharmacy, post office, newsagency and multiple takeaway food outlets.

Neighbouring Rockville has a median sales price of $280,000 which is a modest increase of 1.8 per cent. Like Harlaxton, Rockville features housing styles from timber character homes to modern brick homes and units.

A state primary school is located in the suburb and there are a number of parks with playground equipment.

One of Toowoomba’s premier hospital facilities, St Andrew’s Hospital, is located within Rockville. St Andrew’s Hospital is a 137-bed, acute-care private hospital that has available some of the region’s most advanced surgical technologies.

Quality shopping facilities are provided in either Wilsonton or Harlaxton.
