Unit prices show a moderate rise

-

LOCATED just 3km southwest of the CBD, Harristown is a residential suburb that started developing around the turn of the century.

Much of Harristown’s development is post-Second World War and the housing styles reflect that – with a mix of traditional colonials, post-war housing, chamferboard and brick-and-tile houses on small allotments.

Many Harristown homes have been renovated in recent years, with free-standing homes the most common housing type.

The median sales price for houses is $300,000 which is a drop of 5.8 per cent on last year, while units have had almost the same percentage rise (5.6 per cent) bringing them to $305,000.

There has been an increase in unit development in the suburb with a mixture of multi-unit complexes and duplexes.

Harristown has numerous educational facilities within its borders including two campuses of Concordia Lutheran College – Warwick Street campus and Stephen Street campus – as well as Harristown State School and highly reputable Harristown State High School.

An integral part of the region’s livestock industry, the Toowoomba Saleyards sit nearby. There are significant portions of Harristown that are zoned for industrial use, particularly on the western boundary of the suburb.

You’ll also find the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery on the corner of South St and Anzac Ave. As one of the state’s earliest surviving cemeteries, it was surveyed in May of 1850 and designated as a world heritage site on August 14, 2009.
