SOUTH Toowoomba has had mixed housing styles from the early 1900s and, as larger portions were subdivided, the houses have reflected the style of that era.

The suburb is immediately adjacent and to the south of the CBD, with James St forming the northern boundary and the southern boundary adjoining Middle Ridge.

The suburb’s boundaries are further defined by East and West Creek with each waterway having linear parklands.

South Toowoomba is about four square kilometres and has eight parks covering nearly 19 per cent of the total area, including Lake Annand Park.

There is a mix of free-standing homes and units in the suburb, in both multi-unit complexes and duplexes.

According to CoreLogic data, the median sale price in South Toowoomba is $332,500 for houses (up .8 per cent) and $313,500 for units (down 4.7 per cent).

Free-standing homes make up 75.9 per cent of properties in the suburb, with townhouses making up 9.7 per cent and units or apartments 14.3 per cent.

The suburb has a strong investor presence with 42.9 per cent of properties rented.

The remaining 56.5 per cent of homes are owned, either outright or with a mortgage, and 0.6 per cent is otherwise occupied.

There are several motels in the suburb and South Toowoomba is also the home of the City Golf Club, which hosts the Coca Cola Queensland PGA Championship. The club is also a popular choice for functions and has a large restaurant.

There are numerous fast food outlets on the southern fringes of the suburb and St Saviour’s Catholic Primary School and St Saviour’s College are close to the northern boundary of the suburb.

The primary school offers a co-educational facility from Prep to Year 6 while the college is an all-girls school from Year 7 to Year 12.
