Wide open spaces in Torrington

-

LARGELY undeveloped, Torrington is a suburb of about eight square kilometres on the western edge of Toowoomba.

It sits seven kilometres out from the CBD, with its boundaries defined by Hursley Rd, Boundary St, Troys Rd and the Warrego Highway.

There are several residential estates including Sovereign Hill Estate, with large modern homes on large lots offering a comfortable and peaceful rural-residential lifestyle.

More residential land is being developed as Torrington is part of the Western Corridor, which has been identified as the area necessary to cater for Toowoomba’s expanding population.

Because of the large allotments and houses the median sales price is $527,500, which dropped this year by 8.1 per cent.

Torrington is comprised exclusively of houses with almost all of the homes owned (89.2 per cent), outright or with a mortgage; only 10.8 per cent of the suburb is rented.

It is popular with families with 89.5 per cent of residents made up of family households, which can be attributed to the large allotments and houses that epitomise Torrington’s residential landscape. It still maintains its rural-residential feel with large allotments; there is also a lot of open space, paddocks and bushland offering great rural views. A significant industrial area is located along the suburb’s eastern boundary.

There are no schools in the suburb and the main park in Torrington is Joe Allen Park, which is on Cumner Rd, but it is close to the Wilsonton and Fairview Heights schools.

The park is in a natural bushland setting and provides play equipment with soft fall and shade structure, the picnic facilities include gazebos, tables and benches as well as toilets.
