Willowburn advances
Willowburn will play a role in all four TFL senior grand finals this Sunday.
Wins to the club’s Premier and Conference men’s teams at the weekend helped them secure the final places in the premiership deciders to be played at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
The two sides join their club mates – the Premier Women and Championship Men – which qualified after wins in the first round of finals.
The Premiership Men needed extra time to secure their 4-2 victory against a determined Rockville outfit.
Rockville were in control at half-time after goals to Jefferson Oliveira and Serugo Veco secured them a 2-0 at the break.
Willowburn struck back in the second half, eventually levelling the score, after they made the most of their man advantage following the dismissal of a Rockville player.
After the scores locked 2-2 at full-time, Willowburn scored two goals in extra time.
The Magpies Conference team advanced after a 2-1 win over West Wanderers.
Shoot-out win
Rockville goalkeeper Emily Montgomery was the hero in her side’s win against Gatton.
Montgomery saved two penalties in Rovers’ dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out win victory.
Penny Dukes opened the scoring for Rockville in the first half before Gatton drew level from the penalty spot in the second stanza.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock and extra time was required.
Rockville peppered the Gatton goal but the scores remained level 1-1 after extra time.
Rovers will now face Willowburn after securing a 1-1 (4-3 on penalties) win.
