STORM FOCUSED ON STOPPING INGLIS

- — Gilbert Gardiner

FIREBRAND Will Chambers has taken a lead role in preparing Storm young gun Curtis Scott for his battle with rampaging South Sydney captain Greg Inglis.

The suspended Chambers, widely regarded as one of the world’s best centres, is two weeks into a three-game “crusher tackle” ban.

After copping the wrath of Storm coach Craig Bellamy last month following a third suspension this season, a remorseful Chambers apologised to teammates.

Chambers unceremoniously dumped Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne in round 23.

It followed a two-game ban in round four and a further one-game dangerous contact charge during Origin I.

Unable to pay back the Storm in tomorrow night’s qualifying final, Chambers has worked with Scott, Cheyse Blair and Sandor Earl this week on ways to combat game-breakers Inglis and Dane Gagai.

Scott said yesterday: “I definitely have got my hands full (against Inglis). It probably helps a little bit Chambers is suspended – he can be ‘GI’ this week (at training) for us and get the tackle shield out.

“I’m looking forward to coming up against GI. If I want to get to where I want to get to in my career I’ve got to verse these people.

“It’s going to be a good test for me. I probably won’t be watching his highlight reel this week before the game, that’s for sure.

“He’s done so much in the game and someone that I looked up to as a young fella trying to mimic him in the backyard.”

Scott is expected back on the left edge after slotting into the depleted right side last week, alongside stand-in winger Justin Olam with Chambers suspended and Suliasi Vunivalu injured.
