TRACTORS PULL CROWD
UNDOUBTEDLY the star attraction at the Scoot Mason Annual Tractor Pull at Biddeston was Peter Mann’s beast “Coyote”.
Mr Mann brought the fourengine, 8000 horse power Engler-built machine from Bendigo for the tractor pull.
Simply starting the engines – nicknamed Grumpy, Crusty, Nasty and Meanie respectively – had the crowd gathering around, many filming the action on their mobile phones.
“It uses about 80L of fuel a pull, that’s about 15 to 20 seconds,” Mr Mann’s father Graeme Mann explained as his son turned over the engines.
“This is it’s first run, Peter’s only had it for a week.
“He went over to Canada to bring it back.
“It’s been pulling for about 10 years in Canada and Northern America.”
Despite the gloomy skies and occasional sprinkle of rain, a sizeable crowd turned out for the tractor pull, named in honour of Scoot Mason who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2015.
Mr Mason’s brother Dale Mason organises the event which raises funds for brain cancer research.
“We’ve got tractors built between 1938 and 1950 in the vintage class,” Mr Mason said.
“The tractors pull a sled with moveable weight with skids and the further its goes the harder it is to pull.
“Whoever can tow it the farthest wins.
“The competition comes down to metres or feet, it’s a close competition.
“We’ve had a little bit of rain which has made it a big boggy but we’re hoping it will fine up later on.”
