FOOTBALL: Wade Hall etched his name in the South West Queensland Thunder’s record books twice this season.

Hall was one of two players to feature in all 26 senior men’s games this season and has now played a record number of games for the NPL side.

Starting in the under-16s when the club was formed in 2013, the young defender played his 173rd game this year including 44 as part of the senior men’s team.

Late last week Hall and 2018 captain Jacob Bigby re-signed with the club for 2019 – an easy decision for Hall who played in defence and the midfield this season.

“I’ve been part of the club from the very start,” Hall said.

“It wasn’t always great at the start, I think our men’s team went two seasons without winning a game.

“Back then there was a few of us that would play under-18s, back up for U20s and then be on the bench for the senior men’s team.

“Things have changed a lot since then though and I want to help the club grow even more and push it forward.”

Just how much the club has grown was evident this year.

The Thunder finished in seventh – the highest finish in the club’s history – with the majority of the team being “home grown” talent.

“It’s easy to play for the club,” Hall said.

“There’s a good atmosphere and vibe around it. Everyone just wants to do their part to help it (the club) grow.”

Some wise recruiting also helped the team this year according to Hall.

“Travis (Cooper) and Chris (Hatfield) really added to the team,” Hall said.

“They had a positive effect on and off the park.”
