Guitarist takes to stage
Workshop, concert to impress
ONE of Australia’s most accomplished guitarists will perform at USQ Artsworx on Friday, September 21.
Performer and significant composer, Doug De Vries excels in many musical genres, from jazz to tango, choro, samba and bossa nova.
Mr De Vries will present an evening of solo arrangements and improvisations from notable composers across the jazz and musica brasileira repertory.The concert is at 7.30pm in the USQ Arts Theatre in Toowoomba.
From Duke Ellington to Jobim, Garoto to Django, Yamandu to his own works, he will draw on the rich legacy of these great composers and highlight the guitar’s vast reach in contemporary, popular and improvised music.
Considered Australia’s expert in Brazilian guitar, Mr De Vries has released a number of solo albums and recorded with the likes of Kate Ceberano, James Morrisson and Paul Grabowsky.
Mr De Vries entered the Australian scene through his long stint as resident guitarist in the house band on Steve Vizard’s Tonight Live (Channel 7), during which he took a private interest in Brazilian guitar.
Having been described as exemplary, his work is highly credited within the Brazilian genre.
Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for members.
