BMX: Toowoomba riders have left no stone unturned in their preparation for next week’s Queensland titles.

On top of their normal fitness regimes and riding commitments, the group of 16 Toowoomba BMX Club riders has also enjoyed private training sessions on Brisbane’s Sleeman Sports Complex where the titles will be held.

“The club hired the track for a number of private sessions for our riders,” Toowoomba BMX Club spokesman David Budden.

“It’s a lot longer than any other track they’ve ridden on and very technical so it’s been a big bonus for the riders.

“They’ve also been doing a lot of training with our coaches and lots of racing as well.

“Preparation is really important in the lead up to these type of events.”

Riding in the 15-years girls division, Maddie Groves is one of the Toowoomba riders looking forward to the titles.

“I’ve been riding BMX for about three years now,” she said.

“I like the competitive side of it and I’m excited to be going to the titles again.”

Competing against some of Queensland’s best riders, Groves admits she does feel some pressure but she remains confident.

“I’ve been doing a lot of training and lots of racing,” she said.

“I do get a little more nervous at states but I just try to focus on myself and not worry about anyone else.

“I just to the best I can. It’d be nice to make some finals but I’d be happy with some top eight finishes as well.”

The riders will have a final hit-out at their home track tomorrow before the titles which are from September 24-30.
