St Vincent de Paul offers support
WITH the NDIS continuing to support more people in 2018, the St Vincent de Paul Society is proud to be offering high quality support coordination and disability care services that enhance the lives of people with a disability.
St Vincent de Paul Society commenced providing supports coordination in January 2017 when they identified an overwhelming need in the South West region.
Due to increasing demand for quality services, the supports coordination program will continue to provide services in the Darling Downs, Ipswich, Brisbane and surrounding areas as the NDIS rolls out.
The Society’s support coordinator Rachael Maher describes her role as supporting participants to make the most of their NDIS plans.
“We support people to understand their plan and what supports, therapies, aids and equipment can be funded under the different support areas, then assist them to engage with providers in the region that will best meet their needs.”
Rachael and the team work with participants across the Granite Belt, Darling Downs, Ipswich and Brisbane regions providing an individualised approach that builds a person’s capacity to exercise choice and control.
“We pride ourselves on delivering a service that is personalised so participants can feel comfortable and confident with exploring new options and making decisions about the supports they want in place.
“Following up with participants on a regular basis is important to ensure positive provider engagement so that they can their achieve goals.”
“We have seen first–hand how the NDIS has given people freedom and choices.
NDIS participant Veronica Harper has worked closely with Rachael over the past 12 months.
“Rachael has helped me understand my plan and taught me how to use the portal which has been great as I can now find the right people to support me”
From the Toowoomba office the Disability Program provides in-home support, social and community participation and supported independent living across the region and have done so for over 30 years.
“Most people recognise Vinnies for their Centres of Charity and for the assistance provided with food and other life essentials but are very surprised when they learn how Vinnies supports people with disabilities in the community,” said Kathie Brosnan, executive officer for the Toowoomba Diocese.
