A DALBY man who police will allege threatened to shoot police and himself during a brief but tense standoff at a residence in the town has been remanded in custody.

Dalby police Sergeant Matt Carmody said it was alleged that police received a 000 call from 38-year-old James Horne at a Pratten St address about 3.45pm on Thursday.

He said the caller allegedly told police there was a person in the house armed with weapons and police units rushed to the scene.

However, as police arrived at the home, Sgt Carmody said it was alleged the same man called police again to say that he was the person in fact armed.

During police negotiations with the him it is alleged Horne threatened to shoot police and himself.

Police eventually were able to enter the home and arrest Horne, who is known to police, without further incident and no-one was physically injured.

Sgt Carmody said police would allege Horne was “heavily intoxicated” when arrested and that no weapons were found at the home.

Horne spent the night in police custody before appearing in the Dalby Magistrates Court yesterday on a series of charges including serious assault of police.

He was not required to enter any pleas to the charges and was remanded in custody to appear back in Dalby Magistrates Court for mention on Tuesday next week.
