Toowoomba rehab clinic up for Australian award

-

TOOWOOMBA’S only community-run drug rehabilitation centre has been honoured as a finalist in a major national business award.

Sunrise Way in East Toowoomba, which has a small and dedicated team to look after 20 patients at a time, will go up against massive not-forprofit organisations in the Optus My Business Awards in Sydney next month.

CEO Wendy Agar said the nomination for the award, which was one of the premier events for small and medium businesses, was an endorsement of the direction the centre was heading.

“I am delighted and surprised we’re finalists and for us, we’re so excited. It feels like we’ve won,” she said.

“Regardless of what happens, that’s a huge win.

“To get to this point has taken so much commitment and passion from so many individuals and organisations right across this community.

“It is also recognition of the team of passionate professionals at Sunrise Way who work for the best outcome for each individual every day, and our outcomes reflect this.”

Winners from 28 categories will be shortlisted for the coveted Business of the Year.

Ms Agar said the centre was in the preliminary stages to develop an “addiction hub” to help more people living through drug and alcohol abuse.

“We want to be a centre of excellence and the experts in rural and remote addiction in the region,” she said.
