Special newborn moments
Photographer wins 8 awards in competition
A TOOWOOMBA photographer who specialises in capturing the precious early moments of a baby’s life has won eight awards at an international competition.
Christie-Lee Johnston has been a photographer for eight years and recognises the importance of capturing all of life’s special moments.
Ms Johnston recently entered the Rise International Photography Awards in the maternity, newborn, baby and children categories. She was a finalist in the baby category where she took out five bronze and three silver awards.
“In this particular competition, a bronze award is considered to be good a level of professional practice and a silver award is exceeding professional standard and showing high levels of communication, craft and skill,” she said.
“A common theme from across my images is that the judges enjoyed my use of props and the backgrounds to complement them.
“I implemented a use of posing and baby position within props and the composition of the image, and that my creative style has great impact.”
She said there was something special about photographing a newborn.
“A family is changing and growing and there is so much love and happiness in that moment that I am privileged enough to capture,” she said.
“There is also quite a bit that goes into creating an image, from styling to posing, lighting, settling baby.
“I get a lot of satisfaction when it all comes together and I can deliver a piece of finished art to a family that will be treasured for years.”
Ms Johnston photographs babies all across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region.
